This article explains how to access Parallel Search from within our Compose software. To find out what Parallel Search is and how it differs from keyword, Boolean or natural language searching, please see the article available here. To find out how to access standalone Parallel Search, which you can use without purchasing our Compose software, please see the article available here.
There are two ways to access Parallel Search from within the Compose software platform:
1. Within the Draft of Your Brief on Compose
You can use Parallel Search to find supporting cases and other authorities for specific sentences in your brief. Type a sentence into the draft of your brief on the Compose platform and then use your cursor to highlight that sentence. A menu of icons will appear above the highlighted sentence. To launch Parallel Search, click on the magnifying glass icon:
This will take you to the Parallel Search section of the Content Panel (on the left side of your screen):
From here, you can see your Parallel Search results for the sentence you typed. When you see a case that supports your statement, click "Add" to add it to your draft. A parenthetical citation will be added to your motion, quoting the yellow highlighted portion of the case you selected.
2. From the Content Panel
Click on the "Research" tab in your Content Panel, enter a full sentence in the box provided, then click Search Cases.
As above, when you see a case that supports your statement, click Add to add a parenthetical citation to your draft.
